We need to talk about last night’s ‘Game of Thrones: Battle of the Bastards’

I started watching Game of Thrones just 2 months ago following consistent nudges from a friend and I haven’t looked back since. This is undoubtedly the greatest television programme out there and series six, episode nine the ‘Battle of the Bastards’ was the creators flexing their muscles.

By the end of the Battle of the Bastards and the Jon Snow v Ramsay Bolton showdown over Winterfell I felt like I had watched the greatest action movie of all time. This wasn’t just the greatest mass battle of Game of Thrones. It was the greatest mass battle in television history. A cast of hundreds, and undoubtedly a budget of millions allowed for the creators to put together a battle even more gruesome and realistic than Saving Private Ryan.

The intensity of this ever escalating battle scene has left me thinking: how on earth will they top this for the season finale?!

The creators DB Weiss and David Benioff promised this episode would be unprecedented in sweep and ambition and they were right. There were literally mountains of corpses, Wun Wun ripping through Ramsay’s men, an epic cavalry charge and a cinematography sequence with Jon Snow that I will never forget.

Enjoy the Battle of the Bastards, this is undoubtedly an episode I could watch again and again…
